The new MacBook Air (2012) 11" appears to have Mono speakers, despite Apple stating on their website that they are Stereo, can anyone else confirm this?

I'm not sure what you mean. The MacBook Air has two speakers, one on either side of the keyboard, which when used together to play music, movies, etc., allows for stereo sound. What makes you think it doesn't support stereo?
