Q: was the PowerBook lcd screen lines problem ever resolved

I have a PowerBook G4 and I am just getting the vertical lines starting. I know this is an old machine, but hardly used, and just wondered if any cure was ever found. I tried looking on the apple site and this is now classified as a vintage product !!

    Hello,

From what I recall of this problem back in 2006 which effected the 17" PowerBook mostly, was down to the video cable.

I recall replacing a number of video cables on this model due to a defect in the cable. The only way to really resolve this, is to replace the video cable. No simple or quick fix I'm afraid.

It surprise me that such a problem should come up now. Most later models had better video cables, however Apple have never said there was a defect with any particular model

Does your PB's serial number start with W8? Any W8 PowerBook can has it, not just the 17's.

Those apparently had actual bad display modules, no just the cable. W8 is a factory code, and the problem caused significant grief for G5 iMac owners as well. Apple never addressed it as far as I know.
