Help with a .vro file please

Hi, I have a DVD-R disk that I recorded from TV in Japan. The main file is a .vro file, but I can't play this on my iMac. I am running Lion, and apparently that means it should run in Quicktime, but it doesn't recognise it.

According to my research, if I copy the .vro file to my computer and simply change the extension to .mpg it should play, but again no joy.

I have had a look for a converter, but nothing seems to recognise the file.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

Chris

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried downloading Perian and Niceplayer (already had VLC) but not of these will play the DVD. The DVD has 2 files, a .ifo and .vro file - the .vro file is 4 gigs so obviously has all the information. But so far nothing will play these files.

As for the link to the mpeg-2 component, it says on that page: Note to OS X Lion users: The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required in OS X Lion and should not be purchased.

Would really be a massive benefit if I could get this playing on my computer, or even better convert it to a format that will go onto my ipad.

Thanks

Chris

hello, ma!

yeah, sorry i was wrong.

no, to watch the videos of your only son in japan on japanese tee vee, you have to buy a windows machine, or try someone's linux, if you can find anyone. oh, and i can't change the language in itunes store (only location) and the japanese change all the titles so i can't find that movie you mentioned.

no, sorry, there is nothing apple computer wants do about it. yes, they know about it, but they don't care about customers anymore. no, no, that was back in the 80's and 90's when they were struggling. they're king of the hill now, thanks in part to loyalists like me, so they don't have to care anymore.

yeah, used to enjoy running my mac the way i wanted, cutting edge stuff, assigning ram, cache work space, tossing unused weight from aps, yeah fun. today's apple cuts services i use, charges for former free aps, and now, with no cd/dvd optical drive on imac, insists i put my entire life on their cloud. yeah, the one they share with the nsa.

since the videos run on linux too, i'm seriously thinking of switching over soon. have to brush up on terminal code for tweaks, but the GUIs look great and the software is free.

I can help you when i get back home, ma.

cheers,
