Ok, I've a apple tv version 2. We disconnected it for some house maintence and since then won't work due to not being able to connect to Internet. But all my other devices connect with no problem at all. From reading previous posts I've switched router and tv off, reset it 10's of times plus sync'd it with iTunes via laptop and restored and upgraded it and still didn't solve problem. Any more ideas anyone? Thanks

I too now have an issue with my ATV3, was working fine on Wi-Fi but this has started playing up, dropping connection while watching a movie from my pc in another room.
i'm now at the point where it connects to my Router (Network) but can't access the internet!?

shows full Wi-Fi signal etc

various resets, Restarts, etc make no difference.
Works all ok if i plug in an Ethernet cable..

Unit is running latest software....

Tec phone call booked..

I finally bit the bullet and would advise the others who are having issues to do the same. Head in to your local Apple store and they should be willing to replace the unit. If you are technical, you probably are thinking that you can get through the problem. However, you should head in, get a replacement and put your energy toward solving other things.

Kind of joking here, but kind of not. I was trying to address this on and off for a couple of months. I finally broke down when my ATV wouldn't intermitantly stop looking for a network. It was 12" from the router and it wouldn't even look.

There is clearly a hardware issue with many of the ATV's. However, I was very surprised when the Apple Tech told me that that don't see many issues at all with these. I couldn't help but thing... "You don't sell many of these".

Save the headaches. Get in there and get a replacement.

1 week ago a Wikiki Honolulu Apple Store genius told me she knows ATV3s loose connection; that Apple does not allow her to tell me exactly what the problem is; and she is not allowed to tell me how to fix it myself; that I must bring the device to a genius who will check it and fix or replace it !!!! Because I was on holiday and did not have the ATV3 with me, her offer was not helpful.

I have no reason to change my previous post, that I repeat here....

Scan the Support Community sites and you will find: Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with:-

1 Apple TV1,2and 3;

2 with different brands of router including Airport Extreme;

3 with current and past versions of iTunes;

4 after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days;

5 losing connection with Home Sharing and losing Airplay;

6 whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance;

7 after trying innumerable posted 'fixes';

8 after exchanging for a new Apple TV;

9 with all the recent operating systems -Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard and Lion.

10 when it loses wifi, the ATV will work immediately if you plug in the ethernet cable.

Hi.

I'm one of the people who got the error where the AppleTV 3 lost all WiFis and wouldn't see any wireless networks. That is just one of several different issues reported in this thread (and people would do well understanding it's different issues, or confusion keeps being piled on and people keep saying things like "this issue" when it's clearly several different things).

In my case a reply some days ago suggested a low-tech way of trying to "fix" the issue, which was just restarting until it worked (General -> Restart; check wireless networks; repeat). I was skeptical but it was easier than taking it to the Apple Store.

I set aside some 20 minutes but it was done in 5. I restarted some 8 or 7 times. One of those all my wireless networks were back on. Since then I've upgraded the OS twice when prompted by the AppleTV (since it was originally reset to a previous firmware) and it's been working ever since.

I won't say I buy into all the conspiracy theories about apple keeping mum about the "actual problem" and Apple Store people not being allowed to talk about it because, frankly, it all sounds ridiculous. I find it way more likely that this problem is not even a blip on Apple and that's why it's not being addressed at all. EVERY problem with AppleTVs is dealt with by giving a new one if more than 10 minutes will be spent troubleshooting it (a simple matter of cost, the old one can be sold refurbished if it works afterwards).

As for reasons behind the problem it may be obvious to me, but it's a problem in the AppleTVs (and it's obvious it's not the same problem, since ATV1, 2 and 3 don't share a single things, they use different hardware and operating system). It's also obvious in my specific issue it had NOTHING to do with external factors (iTunes, Routers, Mac OS version, etc.) since the ATV just doesn't see *any* network.

For those that share the same problem as I did: NO network visible, when several are known to be available. Try restarting several times until it works. It's an inexpensive workaround until clearer information is found. It may be of use until you decide either to buy a new one, send it for a replacement or wait for an update (I currently restart it daily and it keeps working).

Obviously restarting and getting WiFi back doesn't "fix" the problem, but may be enough for many that don't have a store close by.

I have the issue regarding ATV3 where everything works fine - streaming purchased movies from iTunes, streaming YouTube videos, using airplay to stream to ATV from iphone 4s and ipad 2with no issue, but when I try to play movies from my windows PC running the latest iTunes and home sharing then it plays about 2 seconds and then I get either the "turn on home sharing", or "unable to connect to network" message.

So I tried using my iPad running "remote" and went into my library on the PC and play the movie that way and that worked fine, I then streamed that over to my ATV and that worked too... So that was a workaround for me. Albeit more hassle! This also worked from my iPhone.

I also use VLC streamer to play avi movies on my iPad from the PC, and then use airplay to go to the ATV . It has a few glitches and restarts the movie after about an hour, but that is another way to get around the issue.

I then tried using a laptop with iTunes installed and home sharing and hey presto that worked playing exactly the same movies as on my main pc

The laptop has a built in wifi, and my PC has an external antenna TP-LINK TL-WN722N 150mbps via a USB port - but that works fine for everything else I do.

Router is a new BT hub 3.0 and I get 30mb download, so no issues there

Hope that helps someone
