My daughter crawled over my laptop the other day and now the screen is too large. If the curser is on the apple icon I can't see spotlight and vica versa. Please help me to restore my screen pre daughter. Thanks.

Since you are running Sierra, you should most likely startup a new thread in the Sierra forum
Is this an external screen, it could be various external monitor adjustments. I know I've been able to tweak external screens so that they expand beyond the edge of the screen.
Then again, that was from the days before your typical 1080p screens, so I do not know if that is possible with the current generation of screens.
If this is the Touch Bar Macbook Pro's laptop screen?

It sounds like your screen has accidentally been zoomed. This magnifies part of the screen, which pushes the outer edges of the desktop off the screen.
Your daughter may have accidentally pressed the keyboard shortcut or trackpad gesture for screen zooming. To turn it off, go to System Preferences, click Universal Access, and in the Seeing tab, click Off for the Zoom feature.
Sounds like the screen may have been zoomed. If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel or a magic mouse, scroll down while pressing the command key to unzoom. You can turn this off with System Preferences > Universal Access > Zoom: Options and uncheck "Use scroll wheel with modifier keys to zoom."
