I have an old htc inspire charger and I want to know If I can use it to charge my iPhone?

I am using an iPhone cable if that's what you mean. I just wanted to know If i could use an HTC power USB adapter instead of the apple one.
You can use, if the output is 5 v and 1 a ,
but it may over charge the iphone ,
