I have a Cisco DPQ3925-X cable modem and an airport express purchased earlier this year. In simple terms how do I connect the AE to the network so that I can stream music from my computer? Is there another range extender with a digital stereo outlet?

Looks like that cisco device is just a cable modem, not a router. So what network are you refering to?
Generally, if you have an existing network, the Airport Express should Join that network. So the computers that are also apart of the network can communicate with it, such as AirPlay (streaming music).
Its my home network. I tried joining the AE to the network but the AE is not showing up on the airport utility.
