Mac Developer VS iOS Developer?

Hi Community,

As a new Developer, I am just getting ready to purchase my Developer's license. I am already in the process of apps both for iOS, and for the full Mac OS, so I just want to make sure. Is there a difference between an iOS Developer account and a Mac Developer account? Will I need to purchase two accounts since I'm developing on both platforms? Or will the one developer account allow me to upload my applications to both App Stores? Thanks,

~Josh

The iOS developer program gives you access to beta versions of iOS, allows you to put the apps you make on your iOS device, and allows you to submit your apps to the iTunes App Store. The Mac developer program program gives you access to beta versions of Mac OS X and allows you to submit your apps to the Mac App Store.

If you want to submit apps to both app stores, you need to pay for both programs. If you can afford only one developer program, go with the iOS one. You can develop and sell applications for Mac without joining the developer program. You just can't sell on the Mac App Store without joining the paid developer program.

Thank you so much Mark, this is exactly the information I was looking for. I've already been developing a few apps for the Mac, and I'm almost finished with testing and debugging the first, so I'll wait until then to get the Mac License. It's definitely been harder to program for iOS though, without being able to test on the actual device, so I think I'll take your advice and just go with the iOS program for now. Thanks again!
