what happens? what error messages do you get? What software sare you trying to install? What version of the OS do you have With no information we can not help

Remember we can't see your machine, have no idea what you're trying to do and even less about where it's going wrong for you. So, try again, bearing all that in mind.

I reinstalled iphoto from the original application install DVD and when trying to open it I get a failure message. My mac version is 10.8.5 and the install disc is 10.6.6. I got a big text from the error message what would you need to help me?

If you update your OS X is not any problem for your installation DVD. If you are still having problems you should install OS X again. My problem was solved after the update.
