iPhone doesn't lock when making / receiving calls

I had restored my phone to eliminate it being a bug issue. Didn't work. I have taken it for repair and it's not a sensor issue? I've been told the only way to solve the issue is to jail break and download an app called call lock from cydia?! Is this really the only solution??? Had the phone 14-15 months. This is rather infuriating as every time I am on the phone it's either mutes / end calls / goes to speaker phone / FaceTime / dials numbers. Please help! Thanks

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

It's possible that your proximity sensor has failed. If it were me, I would make an appointment with the genius bar at a nearby Apple store and have them take a look at it. If you do have a hardware issue and the phone hasn't been damage or jailbroken they would sell you an out of warrantly replacement for $149 (US). If you jailbreak your phone you won't have this option, and you will have voided your warranty, couldn't get support in these forums, may not be able to update your phone in the future or may brick it if you try, etc. etc. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743).
