ALPINE CDA 9856 & iPhone/iPod interface w/KCE-422i; KCE-4221

In case anyone out there is still using the older Alpine CDA 9856 head unit and was wondering how the cables available for the iPhone & iPod work;

I just picked up a KCE-422i KCE-4221 on eBay for $15. It has a built-in 5V converter to charge said iDevices.

Verdict: it works great. All functions operate properly, including charging and calls. no interference thru speakers.

I am using the iPhone 4 8G and an iPod Classic 80G.

Well, I've never had one near enough to my Alpine to try and I'm sorry I can't tell you for certain but by my best guess I'd have to say I think it would. I've hooked my iPhone and iPods up to a multi-iPad docking station and they charged nicely that way, but that's about all I can tell you.

I got the same cable and it works great, but I cant get the reciever to enter search mode on iPod. When I hold down the button it gives me "Quick Search" but I cant toggle up or down from there. Any suggestions?

When ya hold down the button for 'Quick Search', you then use the volume dial to search thru the songs by number. To revert the volume dial back to its original function after using it for search, hold down the same button for a similar amount of time. Hope that helps!

The "Quick Search" works fine, but the manual says I should be able to search by artist, album, etc. Is it because I'm using an iPhone 4?

Y'know, I'm finding the same thing on my iPod - can quick search by track number (Not very useful) but haven't been able to search by artist either.
