No. The iPad is a touchscreen device, and does not have a pointer for a mouse to control.
No, the iPad doesn't support a mouse - there is no pointer for a mouse to control, there is only an insertion point when entering/editing text.
There is actually a pointer in iOS. It just can't be controlled with a mouse.
I am going to use my new iPad for work and was wondering how the typing is going to work. I rely pretty heavily on my mouse now. How will I be able to type documents without being able to maneuver with the mouse?
Use the arrow keys on your document. Or finger to insert.
If you're using a Bluetooth keyboard, the insertion point can be moved using the arrow keys. You can even use them in combination with the modifier keys (eg. Shift, control, option/alt) for different effects. For instance Control+left arrow will bring you to the beginning of the line.
Just no other way. iPad is perfect for trips or on the go. I do do some college papers occas on it. I use the arrows if I have to go back. Once I'm started and in the thick,so to speak, of the document, I am good to go usually.
Thanks dyrlob. Didn't know that.
It must be invisible then.
There is a text insertion bar (vertical line) but no pointer (arrow).

It's not on by default. It's part of the accessibility features...
Go into your settings app, general settings > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch and turn AssistiveTouch on. Then go to create a new gesture. Drag a finger across the area, then hit stop and afterwards save. You be prompted to enter a name, do so then exist settings. Now you'll notice a little translucent icon floating your home screen. Tapping that brings up the AssistiveTouch menu. In there go to favorites and select the gesture you created. Now you should see a little circular cursor appear on screen. Tap the screen and it will repeat the gesture you made earlier.
Do you see my point now? The only practical difference between this and a desktop cursor is that it's controlled by macro rather than mouse.
That blue circle is in no way comparable to the arrow shaped pointer that is controlled by a mouse. It doesn't look the same or even perform remotely the same function.

Doesn't matter what it looks like. There were other styles of cursor before, and occasionally even after, the arrow became standard. Functionality it is an object that appears above the UI, able to manipulate whatever is under it. And it can move and independently of touch. The only difference is the input.
OMG GUYS.... hahaha. Your fighting over a arrow and circle.
Your arguing over whose the biggest apple dork. Kinda funny though 🙂 I kid

Hehe... It is a rather dorky thing to argue about, I won't disagree.
Still, the point I was trying to get at is that the concept of a cursor does exist in iOS; There is something for a mouse to control, if Apple ever decides to add support for one.
I use my iPad to login to my PC via LogMeIn. It has a mouse: right click, left click, scrolling...the works. The mouse is controlled by the touchscreen as the iPad.
It would be nice to have a feature in the IOS for controlling this mouse during presentations. An app would be just as welcomed. Either way, I do have a mouse and a pointer that could be controlled if the developers would make the adjustments. They can make a Keynote remote, can't they do the same for LogMeIn?
At this point, the only alternative is to go to an iMac or MacBook. Both are expensive fixes.
