my ipad and iphone just reset itself (without been requested by myself)

my ipad and iphone just reset itself (without been requested by myself) - any one who can advise on why this is happening and how to prevent this? Just lost a weeks worth of work due to the reset..

iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

10 wrong Passcode can Erase all data on iPad if it is enabled.

Does anyone else know your apple ID? With it, you can do a remote wipe of any device attached to that account.

If you are attached to an Exchange server, the server admin can also do a remote wipe of the device.
