I have just returned a few days old Apple tv 3 to a store as I didn't like the sound quality and had network issues. If it's resold, will the new owner have access to my apple id and be able to buy content on itunes? I didnt factory reset before returning.
No apple will wipe it to factory when they fix it.
Thanks for the reply. The device is not being fixed, but was refunded. Called the store, they will restore to factory settings for me before sending to their central returns centre.
As a point of interest, would a second user be able to use my Apple id to purchase itunes content.. How much info is stored on the device?

Just stuff attached to your apple Id. Yes to the other. I have an apple tv at my house. My parents have one with my id on it. They have iPads and like to mirror. They also use Netflix. They don't purchase movies or anything, so I gave them my apple I'd to watch a movie if they want that I bought.
For purchasing, it depends if you have your apple Id to prompt for a password every time. I do. So if someone had my apple I'd on a device, if you try to buy something it asks for a password every time.
I was wondering about that.... Ordinarily, I always ensure I get the prompt on all devices. However, last night I rented a movie on my other AppleTv and there was no prompt, so I must have set it up that way without realizing... I guess it must be easy to do, or I thought I was saving the Apple id password for logging into HomeSharing, not purchasing. I suppose I could change the name of my Apple ID to a different email address. Would this work?

They said they would. Why would they keep it on there? So I think your safe. I am really not sure how to prompt your password every time. Mine automatically did it. So I didn't have a want to change it. Don't screw with your apple id/ changing the email and what not. I think your safe. Any electronic sold as refurbished is wiped and reset like new.
Why not just change the password associated with the AppleID to be on the safe side?

Just before reading this, I tried to change my Apple ID name to a different email, then realised I could just change the Password. Great. And now Apple insist on a much more rigourous password, so all's well.

I think that's the minimum I'd do but I probably would have reset the unit before returning anyway, but easy to forget to do so I guess.
