No 3G signal on iPad 2 wifi + 3G

I have an iPad 2 wifi + 3G with an O2 sim card. I only have used mobile data on my iPad a few times when away from home. The last 2 weeks I have been all over England and cannot get any 3G signal. I have got over 2GB of data left on my account. At the top of the screen it shows 5 bars with O2 and only ever shows 'E' or 'O' no 3G. I have an iPhone and the places I am using the iPad has 3G signal and O2 have also confirmed I should have good 3G in the areas I am. I put the sim from the iPad into my iPhone and can get 3G so it's not the sim card. I am running OS 5.1.1 and have the latest carrier settings. Can anyone help me as I can't find a similar post anywhere online.

If you have tried restarting the iPad (shut down, leave for 5 or more minutes then turn back on again) then you could try a restore to factory settings, just make sure you backup in iTunes first so you have a copy of everything on your iPad first.

If that does not work, I would book an appointment with a Genius at the Apple store.

Did a factory reset there and before i restored all my settings i saw the 3G sign at the top but when i restored to a backup it doesnt connect to 3g. Could it be a setting I have even though I have reset network settings? The only way I can think to sort it is set my iPad up as a new iPad but I dont really want to do that.

Ok so I got mine working again. I did a full iPad restore to factory setting and as soon as it started up I had 3G and it worked. iTunes asked me if I wanted to restore my iPad and when I did (done this several times with different restore points) the 3G symbol disappeared. I tried playing with settings and everything else with no luck so I ended up restoring my iPad to factory settings and set up as a new iPad and ever since there has been 3G! I was able to copy all apps that were on before and it still works. So thats the only way I could fix mine. Also I haven't allowed iTunes to update the carrier settings because O2 have a problem where the update isn't actually installing and causing problems with data. Hope this helps some people.
