Q: How to scan slides and film with Image Capture?

I am trying to use Image Capture with my Epson Scanner 4990. When I open Image Capture I do not have the option to select mode. How do I scan negatives and slides?

Either try the software that came with the scanner, or use the best scanning software out there, VueScan:

I had the same problem. Using Epson Perfection 1650 and Image Capture I was not getting a usable Mode option. I unplugged and restarted everything and to my surprise the Mode options appeared. Transparency / Negative and Positive.
