Q: I tried all of the above and it did not work. I still have that gray screen with apple logo. I am running a Pro Mac Server with two Xion prossers each 3.2 GHz and 48G of ram running the latest OS X Server

I tried to reboot with the Shift held down, and tried Option R, Then Option RP and then OptionComand  R. But thing happened still grab. This happened when the server shut down due to electrical outage.

Thanks

    You may have hardware damage.

Boot from an OSX Install DVD for the version you had loaded and use Disk Utility to Repair the disk, then repair permissions.

There is an Apple hardware test you can download and run too. If you joined Apple Care, Apple would have sent you the Hardware test disk.

Well, none of those are the correct combination, except shift.

Do you have a wireless keyboard? If so, hold down cmd-r as soon as you hear the startup tone. That should take you to the Recovery HD.

Holding down shift should boot into Safe Mode, if it can.

Holding down D might boot into the hardware tests.

Thank you all for your help.  I have to change the wireless keyboard and replace it with a windows keaboard and held down the the Alt button and boot it up to the recovery and the sever discs. After several appraches I came to and conclution that I have to errase the entire hard drive and reinstall the O X Lion Server and sure enough it started all over and now I an really enjoying looking at a diffrent screen rather than that gray one.  So winter has gone and now jumoing to Spring.

    Thank you all
