Visual voicemail not working on Virgin Mobile USA iPhone 4S

I was able to set up visual voicemail initially when I activated the phone, but I noticed just today that it is no longer working. When I tap "Voicemail" in the phone app, it just calls the voicemail number and I have to listen to messages piecemeal. There is also no badge or other notification indicating new voicemail messages. Is anyone else having this problem? This is on top of the inability to send SMS, which it seems many others are experiencing.


Seriously disappointed in Virgin Mobile service thus far and am considering returning the phone and going back to AT&T.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

I was able to get Visual Voicemail to work on Virgin Mobile US by:

  1. Dialing my own number (or long-press on 1 in the keypad) to get into the normal Sprint voicemail
  2. Going through the voice prompts to set up a voicemail greeting and a PIN
  3. Make sure cellular data is on in the iPhone settings
  4. reboot the iPhone


I called and left a voicemail for myself and the first time i tried to get into the Visual Voicemail the phone said "cannont initiate connection" but then a few seconds later the voicemail showed up in the Visual Voicemail list and i was able to listen to it. So, it was a rocky start but once you set up the normal voicemail, the visual voicemail seems to take over.


Hope that works for you too (or maybe you already solved it).
