You don't have X79 motherboard, what you have is workstation board, but you don't list your specs.

USB3 is iffy - on PC motherboards. I use a WD $30 PCIE 3.0 2-port card on mine and on PC but under Windows. Sometimes device does not show or mount until I plug into USB2 and then back.

If you are asking if anyone uses Asus controller, I have not heard of any myself - except on PC forums (I don't hit hackintosh sites though). Maybe you should, build hackintosh.
