VPN clears Shared Secret

I am trying to connect to my company's VPN using the Cisco (IPSec) native VPN client found in the Network Settings in OS X Lion 10.7.4. I enter the correct server, username, password, group, and shared secret, but when I click apply it clears the shared secret. I then get an error that it could not connect to the VPN because there was no shared secret entered. I tried clearing the preferences to restore the network settings, restarting in safe mode, and importing the vpn settings from a different iMac, all yield this same error, with no fix. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
