The above instructions will make a copy of the file in the new location, leaving the original in its place.

To CUT and paste you:

(1) Highlight file/folder, and copy from Edit menu or command-c.

(2) Navigate to destination, hold option key down and select "Move item here" from Edit menu, or hit option-command-v.

This will move the file to the new location, removing the file from the old location.

This can also be achieved by highlighting the target file and pressing Command-C to copy, followed by pressing Command-V to paste it in the new location (be sure to specifically open and click the new location to ensure it has focus before copying). You can also hold the Option key while pasting (Option-Command-V) to move the item to the new location instead of copying it.
