Removing "Ask.Com" from Safari search and address bars

"Ask.Com" has injected itself into my Safari adddress and search bars. I find that irritating. How do I remve it? Note: I had the same problem with "Bing" but Isomehow stumbled into the way to eliminate it. Now I want to do the same for "Ask.Com".

It sounds like you installed an extension, or some other kind of Safari modification. From the Safari menu bar, select Safari > Preferences > Extensions. If any extensions are listed, disable them. Do the icons go away?

Solved. First of all, I now realize that the Yahoo icon is there because I am using a Yahoo homepage. Secondly, the Ask.com icon was in my searchbar because I had inadvertently clicked on the tiny, tiny (almost invisible) triangle that can easily be missed because it could easily be part of the icon at the left end of the bar. When you click on that tiny triangle, you're given a choice of 18 different "things". You can choose Google, or Google SSL, or, well, take a look. However, I don't why anyone would want to use many of them.

What exactly do you mean?

When I use Safari, there are two slots at the top (Tool Bar?). The slot on the left (Address Bar?) is for typing in URLs and the slot on the right is where I go to post questions in Google.

I made a mistake before. The real situation is as follows:

There is a small Yahoo icon at the beginning of the address bar, and there is a small "Ask.Com" icon to the far left of the Google bar. I want those icons removed.

I also use Google Chrome and Firefox, but I have no such problem with them.
