How do I utilize my ethernet/airport/wifi?

I have Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 that has ethernet and airport. I really don't understand what either of them are... but now I have a nook and cannot figure out how to use my Mac so that I can use the wifi on my nook. Can anyone help?

I did try this http://maketecheasier.com/create-wifi-hotspot-using-mac-os-x/2009/10/20 and it worked for a while, but now it's not working... and somehow, I think I should be doing something else anyway. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ethermet: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet

In your context it might be best to assume Ethernet is a data connection via a wire as opposed to wireless.

Airport and wifi are alternative names for wireless.

Is there a wireless/modem/router where you are? If so I think that both your Nook and Mac should be able to connect to it via wireless.

Thanks Neville.

Ok, so the difference between ethernet and airport is that the eithernet is the wire connection... and airport would be something wireless... requiring a router?

But, I was able to turn my computer into a "hot spot" as outlined in that article, but for some reason, I cannot connect anymore. The nook shows that I'm "out of range," and that I have the wrong password. I've tried to reset the password, but that is not solving the problem.

So, what's confusing me is, I have the ethernet connection, but to make my computer a hot spot, I have to turn the airport on, which suggests to me, an airport ... router? is within my computer??? So confused!

Any thoughts?

Not necessarily, as you have demonstrated, but this may not be the most flexible or stable way to do it.

Strictly a router enables many computers to connect to each other but unfortunately the word is often used for the combined modem, firewall, wireless, router and DHCP server box that most people have to interface with their telephone line or 'cable'. Not all of these have a wireless facility.

Airport, wifi and wireless are alternative names for a radio transmitter and receiver.

I advise that you investigate your router to see if it has wireless. If so you should be able to connect both your Nook and Mac to it independently.

Thanks again.

This is what I could find out on my own. I'm 99% sure everything I need is in this computer, I just don't know the right way to utilize it.

Any thoughts?
