Question

I can't empty trashcan because of deleted System Volume Information folder on external NTFS hdd

Hi, I'm new to mac.

I deleted few files/folders from my external hdd which is NTFS formated, and I use Paragon NTFS so my mac can see it.

Problem started when I deleted System Volume Information from hdd. Now anything that I delete leave a empty folder in trashcan.

I tried terminal method, secure delete etc. Also tried to open and delete .trash on PC but I got error saying I don't have privilages to do that or smth like that.

Also tried Trash It.

Any tips for me?

At the Terminal command prompt, type the following, replacing ‘your_username’ with (yep, you guessed it…) your username.

sudo chown -R your_username .Trash

press 'return' on the keyboard and enter your password.

Next, click on the trash can icon, hold down the 'option' key and click the "Empty" button on the right-hand side of the window.

I had the same problem as I've recently switched to a mac. I solved it by connecting the external hard drive to my old Windows PC and selected 'show hidden folders' (Open a folder -> Organise -> Folder and search options -> view tab -> show hidden files and folders). Delete all hidden files. Done 🙂.
