Q: memory upgrade purchased from Crucial Technology should be but seems incompatiable

I purchased a compatable memory upgrade for my imac mid 2007 serial # W87413RFX86. The Crucial Technology product is 4gb memory upgrade is for Apple iMac 2.4 ghz Intel core 2 Due (20in 667mhz) system2 2gb 200 pin  Kit os 2 CT25664AC667. K16F.  The memory sticks were seated properly, I've also tried adding one at a time with the original memory on board after haveing no luck adding 2 at a time. This is the 2nd shipment and replacement product. Why am I having issues, any thoughts or suggestions?

Did you use the Crucial System Scan to identify the proper RAM for your system or just use their list?

What exactly is the problem you're experiencing? Will the Mac not boot? Does it book but lock up or crash randomly? Does it work but not show all the memory you think you should have? Or what, exactly? We need details on the problem before anyone can offer much in the way of useful advice.

    Regards.

Sorry to be vague. The system will not boot up when both sticks are on board, I'm getting black screen and the repeated one beep. When orig. memory and one new stick are on board the new isn't reconized or working. Last night after seating the orig. memory several times, the system wouldn't wouldn't boot up and again the Agh! beep. Do the slots get worn, or the old card sloppy? I did air blast and reseat the orig. stick this morning and the system is running. My son tells me today that he tried to upgrade a couple months ago with the same Crutial product with no luck. I would have tried another manfacture had I known he was trying to help with no success. I don't think this manufacturer should be an issue. What am i missing? Thank you for your input.

The specs for that RAM do indicate that it's correct, though it's possible that Crucial twice shipped faulty or out-of-spec DIMMs. It's not common - Crucial is generally rated one of the most reliable memory vendors - but perhaps they got a run of mislabeled DIMMs.

A very long shot, but try resetting the system management controller (SMC):

I doubt it will help, but it's worth a try. If that doesn't help, you can return the memory kit to Crucial and try another brand. Kingston and OWC (Other World Computing/MacSales) are other vendors that usually get high ratings.

If another kit also fails, then your Mac's logic board may have a fault.

    Hope this helps. Regards.

Back to the boot sound. Were you only getting one beep with the black screen? Three beeps would indicate a RAM issue. I'm not familiar with the single beep repeating.

Thanks Varjak. Through the process of trying to get up and running , I did reset the smc, unfortunatly no help.

I've checked out  logic board faults on your suggestion, but I haven't experienced any prior situations that indicated this to be a problem. Crutical support, while so willing to help, can only offer a replacement or refund. Unfortunatly we all know the definition of insanity, and any new product from them would be the third try I'm so frustrated and in need of more memory.

    Thanks to all
