Thanks, but this does not help. Full view button appears at lower left, when selected I am left with only the iPhoto toolbar at the top of the screen. This is what I get also when I start up iPhoto. When I select full view from the toolbar does the program appear. I can work with iPhoto, but I would like to not always be in full view. Should I upgrade OS to whatever Lion I can get?

Don't need to upgrade. Try resetting your PRAM:

PRAM RESET

Zap the PRAM

  • Shut down the computer.
  • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  • Turn on the computer.
  • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  • Release the keys.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Wow… this is interesting. I tried connecting a camera to see what would happen. After I declined to place new photos in Dropbox and selected iPhoto only, iPhoto opened but only the menu bar. I out of curiosity opened under Window, - Manage My Places… this opened the old familiar iPhoto screen, with a inset box containing a map which required me to finnish selecting a place. After finishing this… the camera down load screen appeared! Since then I am back to normal, have opened and closed several times Full View works as well, and returns to normal when button on lower right is clicked.

Hooray and thanks again!

I found this post while looking for a way to toggle full screen on and off as well, as I don't have that option in the lower left corner of my iPhoto 11 screen as shown in a really great iPhoto 11 tutorial I downloaded last night from the Mac Apps store ("Tutor for iPhoto 11" - $4.99) I just found where the switch is in my iPhoto 11, and wanted to share with others. On my screen it is two diagonal arrows in the upper right corner of the screen. Click it once and iPhoto goes to full screen. You then have to push your cursor up into the top of the screen for the white menu bar to re-appear, and when it does, you can click the two diagonal arrows again to turn full-screen off. I don't know why this on/off option appears in the upper right corner on my program, when it appears in the bottom left corner of most everyone else's...but there you are.
