Q: Problems upgrading iTunes on Windows XP - Help needed...

trying to upgrade my iTunes on a Windows XP won't work - it claims that my downloaded upgrade file is on an unavailable disk. Same thing happens if I try to uninstall the old version. Any suggestions?

iTunes, Windows XP Pro, I still can run the older version..

That's perfect, thanks. That's actually a more common one than the ones I had been suspecting.

 

"The function you are tying to use is on a network resource that is not accessible.

Click OK to retry, or type an alternative path to the folder containg the installation package iTunes.msi"

 

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/189/18923369-1.gif "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)

 

(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

 

(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Doublechecking ... is it saying unavailable, inaccessible, or invalid? (There's few different rarer messages that you might be getting, and I'm trying to determine precisely which one's in play here.)

    Having a norwegian windows version, but this is the best translation I can provide:

    "The function you are tying to use is on a network resource that is not accessible.

    I have tried to move the file from c:\documents and Settings\#username#\local......to c:\  but getting exactly the same message.

    Exactly the same happens when trying to uninstall.
