nano fitness workout constantly being interupted

Hi,

Whenever I use the nano's fitness program it stops every 90 seconds or so and the voice says "Workout interupted" (not sure if that's the exact phrasing).

Anyway this is highly irritating as I keep having to hit resume.

Can anyone tell me how to solve this highly irritating problem?

Good try, but no possibility that this is the case as each time the nano is at rest on a table and plugged in to a bose stereo system so that I can hear the music and the fitness voiceover tell me how much time has elapsed, and (irritatingly) that the workout has been interupted. Then I have to walk over (I'm skipping by the way), and hit resume.

Since this problem occurred, have you Reset the iPod?

If that does not help. You can also try doing a Restore, in iTunes from the iPod's Summary tab. This will erase the iPod, reinstall the latest software, and set it to default settings.

In that case, does this problem ever happen when it is connected to regular headphones (not connected to the Bose system). The nano can accept various commands from the headphones cord (when a cord that has the remote control buttons is connected), so maybe the Bose unit is somehow sending a signal that is interpreted as a command to pause workout.

the fitness voiceover tell me how much time has elapsed

Does that audible update happen automatically? You don't have to touch the nano to make it say the elapsed time?

Thanks for the tip about resetting/restoring the nano. Just tried that. I restored it and it did upload the latest software to the nano in the process.

Just tested it and no go. Same problem.

Also tested it with regular headphones. Same problem.

No. Seems that's a normal part of the Fitness app. The voice comes on at the halfway mark and tells you that you've reached the halfway mark. It also alerts you when you have, say one minute to go, and congratulates you when you're done.

Anyway net effect of all this is that restoring has made no difference and the problem occurs with headphones and when connected to my Bose speaker.

I really appreciate your help though.

Seems like there is a hardware problem (though a strange one). I can't think of anything else that would randomly "pause" your workout. You did a Restore, so it's not a software or settings issue. You are not even touching it, so it can't be inadvertent user input. And it happens with regular headphones, so it's not something peculiar about the Bose system.

If it's still under the one-year warranty (or AppleCare if you have it), you should contact Apple tech support, either by making a reservation at an Apple Store Genius Bar, or through the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.

I just got mine yesterday and took it to the gym to try the fitness program, and the voice-over constantly interrupted the music saying it was stopping or pausing my workout and I had to manually resume it each time, so I finally gave up on that. I had it connected to my earbuds with the remote on them. Did you contact Apple and what was the outcome?
