Finder - Doesn't display dvd's

hello. Open finder then in the menu at top, click on finder the word, hold and select preferences. Make sure the boxes are checked like 'show these items on desktop: hard disks, external disks , cd's DVD's and iPods...

also still in finder preferences, you can go to sidebar pane (at top of pref window) and select what will show in the side bar...

OK open system preferences> cd and dvds in the hardware section. I have when I insert a blank CD and dvd ASK WHAT TO DO (in the bubble to the right, with up and down arrows to select with)

What are your setttings there presently?

When you subsequently are asked what to do, I select open finder.And I see them.

another thing I found is that you can use disk utility to eject a disk. And that sometimes a blank cd is bad and will not be visible... what else... oh yeah- the eject button should eject (top right-most button)

Back in system preferences, hardware cd/dvd- for the inserting a video DVD, I have open DVD PLAYER, so then the play controls show up

Verify that it's not a blu-ray DVD.

HAHAHAHAHA OH I bet half a peso that is it!

I never even THINK about blu-ray...
