Hello:

Try resetting the SMC (and PRAM, if you are able to do so).

If the BT device(s) were/are connected to something else, BT devices may only be connected to one thing at a time.

Hi Barry. Thanks for offering assistance. I'm going to sound pretty dumb I'm sure but is resetting the "SMC"/"PRAM" easy to do? I'm unfamiliar with the terms or how to do that. I really appreciate your help and would be glad to give it a try. The BT device is my iPhone and as far as I know it is only synced for my laptop. Thanks again.

Hi:

There are no dumb questions...answers, yes, but not questions. 😉 Sometime I use acronyms and forget that I should explain things a bit more. 😊

Resetting those two things sometimes helps and cannot hurt.

SMC=system management controller:

PRAM=parameter random-access memory:

If that does not help, delete the phone from your computer (system preferences>Bluetooth), restart, and then add it back in:

P.S. If everything fails and you are near an Apple store, make an appointment with a "genius" and take the devices in for them to assist.

You cannot connect an iPhone to a computer via Bluetooth except for Internet tethering (Personal Hotspot) i.e. connecting your Mac to the internet using the iPhone's wireless data connection.

If you are trying to connect the iPhone to the Mac via Bluetooth for any other purpose (such as transferring files) it will not work, isn't suposed to, and nothing you can do will make it work.
