Just Another Battery Life Question RE: iPod Touch 4th Gen.

Hello,

Apologize for another thread on this topic, although I did do some research before posting this.

I have read numerous discussions here regarding questions to do with short battery life with the iPod Touch 4th Gen. with iOS 5.1.1.

I've gone through all the suggestions, noted articles etc. but nothing seems to make a difference.

My main use is browsing via Wi-Fi. I can only get about two hours max. browsing with Safari or using Flipboard. I've implemented all the other suggestions for keeping the battery drain low.

One issue that I thought about is the iPod Touch was purchased as a gift for me in October, 2011. I hate to admit it but I really just started using it about two months ago, where I started regularly charging the battery.

So, I'm wondering if letting the product sit unused for months after purchase has caused the battery to weaken?

I'm also interested in knowing how long the battery holds up when browsing via Wi-Fi?

Specmanship with electronics is an art. It's not just Apple, it's pretty standard practice in the industry to quote specs that are "good" to the consumer viewpoint.

For instance, under the iPod Touch Technical Specs page, here is what's said about "Power and Battery":

Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
Music playback time: Up to 40 hours when fully charged
Video playback time: Up to 7 hours when fully charged
Charging times: Fast charge in about 2 hours (80% capacity), full charge in about 4 hours

Music and Video are only mentioned. Which, I guess, to be fair is probably the biggest percentage of use for the product. But, I can't find reference to usage time when using internet over Wi-Fi.

Does anyone have experience or numbers regarding that? It seems, to me, that only two hours max. is pretty weak.

Other than that, it's definitely a great product.

Thanks in advance and look forward to replies!

- Not using the battery for over a month shortens batter life. Apple reccomends discharging/charging the battery monthly when not regularly being used.

- I would get a long video, an hour or so and fully charge the battery. The keep playing the video and se ho long the battery lasts.

To repeat it see:

If about 1/2 stated capacity or less I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

lllaass,

Thanks!

Your comment confirms what I was worried about since I just let the product sit for months. I used it for a few day initially when I got it and then just put it aside without use/recharge. I've some experience in the electronics field - mobile phones - and the same issue exists since lithium-ion is pretty much standard.

I appreciate the suggestion about doing the long video test and will definitely try that.

Curious, do you know what the cost is for a battery replacement? I think I'm still under warranty but haven't checked the fine print. My assumption is that the battery is not covered?
