If my main Login has a glitch, Is there a way to get my files over to another Login even if they are restricted?

My main Login (User 1) is having problems starting up. It tries to load and then logs out before finished. The other Login (User 2) works perfect but mine seems to have an issue.

First question is, My files on User 1 are restricted from User 2, the one that works, Is there a way to transfer them over from User 2 without having to login to User 1 as I can't?

Secondly, I think the issue with User 1 is that it is trying to load a program on start-up that it doesn't like. Is there a way to stop that from User 2?? I have been into system preferences and tried that way but it only lets me change password.


Any help is greatly appreciated.🙂

Let's see if we can login to #1...


One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...


PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive


Reboot, test again.


If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.


Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.


If not we can work on moving the files.

Thanks for your reply.
I have already tried Safe Mode with no luck. As soon as I log in, it logs me out without even finishing loading.


The problem with seeing what is loading on start-up is that I cannot log into that account to see what is or isn't and its restricted from the login that does work..


Is there anything else I can try??

"Try Disk Utility


1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.

5. Select your Mac OS X volume.

6. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.
