Hello I picked up and old Ipod classic 1st gen model M8541 does not show up on laptop or itunes, do I need specific drivers. I'm not technically minded if you could keep it as simple as possible. Thanks.

I think you need an earlier version of iTunes, maybe verion 6 or earlier.

I know this is as very basic question my apologies. Where can I find an earlier version of ITunes and if downloded would it replace the current version of ITunes I have on my laptop?, I'm using Windows 7.
Yes, the earlier version would replace you latest version of iTunes, so you wont be able to see IOS devices like iPad, iPhones, or iPod Touch. So it would be a big hassle, especially if the vintage iPod is dead.

Hello, I purchased the Ipod and it was dead, purchased a new battery and it came to life. Problem I have now the battery is dwindling and I don't have any means to recharge. I've an old back up laptop and would have no problem installing an earlier ITunes setup but where would I get a hold of earlier versions.
I bought an IEEE to USB cable but as ITunes and Laptop don't recognise the IPod I'm struggling.

Try searching an IEEE wall charger from eBay or Amazon, to charge the battery.
