Q: Aperture Crashing After Update

Hi there,

I am not sure exactly when, but a month or two ago I approved an Aperture update. After doing this, I started having a lot of beach ball/crashing problems while making adjustments to photos (skin smoothing, blur--these kids of adjustments). Sometimes just Aperture does a forced close and sometimes the complete system freezes and I have to shutdown/restart the entire computer.

I am new to the Mac world and only so savvy on a computer in general. I have read a lot of the discussions about Aperture crashing and problems, but none of them seem to fit exactly right and a lot of them have solutions that I do not fully understand. Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this problem? Can they be explained in layman terms? I would greatly appreciate it.

What kind of information do you need from me...and how can I find it for you? I see the crash reports a lot, is the text copy/paste-able into the forums here?

I think I could use a mouse version of you in my pocket.

Seed testing for apples sounds like fun...I will have to try that sometime.

I will assume for now that all of this will resolve my Aperture issues...so I will mark this question as solved. I think my brother might feel about me as you do about your sister--technology wise. Head banging worthy at times.

Have a good day, thank you for all of your time!!

I have the time machine back-up, plus 2 additional drives, one of which I only back up monthly. I hear what you are saying, in regards to issues with a library reaming despite an upgrade. I moved the preference files as Carolyn suggested previously and am hoping to download a new OS soon. It feels a little overwhelming right now, so I am working on one thing at a time. I will check out the troubleshooting guide in Aperture too. Thank you, Frank for that information too.

I just updated Mountain Lion to 10.8.2 and installed the Aperture update and Aperture continues to crash despite following commands to repair the database. The exact same sequence of events happened on my new Macbook Pro

I am uninstalling Aperture today and buying Elements 11. Aperture has been crashing on me for months, some support from apple, ie my sending in numerous screen shots, reports etc etc. I assume Apple are a little more preoccupied with pumping out more beautiful products for us mugs to go and buy than supporting current customers and software. Very poor. Never thought I'd say it. May even look to go back to PC! and get off this apple round about. I love their products but customer service and support going down hill. Sorry for moaning on here but trying to get a contact email address to forward complaints to Apple is impossible. I also own a Fuji X10 which apple do not support the RAW files from yet, nor are ever likely too. Suspect they are blaming Fuji, but every other photography software manufacturer supports it, just not apple.
