Kernel panic?

Question

My MBP - couple weeks old - has been running great, except a couple days ago I got a kernel panic. Normally, I would think little of it, since that has happened to me before a couple times on old computers. However, I just got another one (according to the logs, there was about a 2.75 day interval between them). I have never gotten kernel panics this close to each other, and especially since this is a new computer, I wonder if you guys could help tell me what might have caused it, or at least how to decipher the log. The log does mention the Intel HD Graphics 4000 in the backtrace, but I don&#x27;t know if that means that&#x27;s what failed. Both panics occurred while I was just browsing the web, not even watching videos or having a game open or doing some intensive task in the background, and the computer was not particularly hot. Stop using Chrome and see if the problem stops. There are some known problems connected to the Firefox/Chrome browsers and the new Macs.

I would try resetting your PRAM/NVRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379   if that doesn&#x27;t work, usually a reinstall of the os works like a champ. Just hold down command and R on starup then select reinstall mac os x it should be the second on that list after you select your languagelet me know if that works 🙂

See below:Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the DriveBoot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.&#x27;s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. A reinstall if you don&#x27;t do an Erase and install won&#x27;t delete your data and depending on your internet connection takes between a half hour to 2 hours just depending, I would recommend connecting thru ethernet if you want it closer to a half an hour

This is a known bug in the graphics driver triggered by the Chrome browser. Reinstalling the OS will make no difference. Google is developing, and may have already released, a version of Chrome that works around the bug.
