Ipod Classic get's a unknown error when transfering media to it

I have a Ipod 160Gb Classic on a 64bit Windows 7 system.

My itunes will show the ipod once it is plugged in. But when I transfer any files it completes it to about 50% freezes and then itunes quites responding. I have to close the application in the task manager, and the process too, and then the program won't reopen until I unplug my ipod. Ocassionally It said It had a unknown error (50) occur.

This happens also with any other computer I have connected it to.

The diagnostics gave me this:

Retracts 24

Reallocs 316

Pending Sectors 6

Power on hours – 50

Start/stops 54

Temp current 25c

Temp min 14c

Temp max 47c

Any help would be appreciative. Also I have reinstalled itunes and quicktime to see if that helped as well as attempting to restore(this also ends in a unknown error most times)

Thank you

iPod classic, Windows 7, 64bit OS

Your iPod Hardisk, still looks good, except for the power On hours, I wont venture how you got it negative.

If it is under warranty, bring it in to Apple Store.

Otherwise, I would suggest that your Restore the iPod to repair the corrupted filesystem and software, which is a problem for you, maybe due to plugins conflicts and slow USB connections.

But try the following while connecting the iPod to the PC.

  1. Connect only via USB 2.0 port (at the back of the PC if you are using a desktop)
  2. Disconnect all other USB devices, and dont use any USB Hub with the iPod Classic.
  3. Disconnect from Internet, (so that you wont be tempted to browse or twitter) to protect your PC.
  4. Stop the Antivirus and all other Software, except iTunes.

Good Luck!
