Un-requested Safe Boot Start Up

My i-Mac often starts in Safe-Boot mode without me pressing the Shift key on startup. This is very annoying because I then have to re-start my computer before I can use all it's functions. How can I stop it doing this?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

There were threads on here a while back describing the same problem. It seemed to be connected with a Bluetooth issue. The solution that was recommended and seemed to work was to make sure that any BT devices - keyboard/mice/trackpads are not switched on until the Mac has booted, or only after the boot process has got past the rotating 'cog'.
