Jul 15, 2012 2:30 PM in response to Gunnar Lindby mr da,OK, in your System Report (from About this Mac > More Info), do you see HDMI listed as an option under Audio (built in)? (Forgive me for asking - I don't have the list of supported computers in front of me.) If yes, then what adapter are you using?

Jul 15, 2012 2:39 PM in response to mr daby Gunnar Lind,There is great risk of confusion since I am seeing the words in Swedish and it is sometimes difficult to tell what the translation should be, but here goes:
In the System Report there is only one topic with the word sound: "Sound (built-in)"
Under that topic it says "Intel HD Sound" and I can choose a nummer of options, but only one for "Speakers" and it says "Connection: internal"
There is also an option for "HDMI/DisplayPort" which says "Connection: screen" (or monitor)

Jul 15, 2012 3:16 PM in response to Gunnar Lindby mr da,OK, here is the link I was looking for earlier: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241. This page describes which Apple computers support audio over MPD and which only video. I'm guessing an 8,2 (is that from 2008?) only supports video through the MDP.

Jul 15, 2012 3:19 PM in response to mr daby Gunnar Lind,Thanks, I'll have a look at it. The MacBook is from late 2011. What is MDP?

Jul 15, 2012 3:22 PM in response to Gunnar Lindby mr da,My bad: I see from OWCs memory page that 8,2 is from 2011. So according to the Apple link above, your machine should support audio over the MDP. Sorry, I'm out of ideas.

Jul 15, 2012 3:25 PM in response to mr daby Gunnar Lind,Is the MDP the same as Thunderbolt?
Is there anyone else out there that you can ask?
-
Jul 15, 2012 4:10 PM in response to Gunnar Lindby mr da,In my (limited) understanding, Thunderbolt is a new standard which is backward compatible with MDP. In the Apple page linked above, there is some discussion of adapters which work in passing through the audio.
