Interrupted Appstore downloads always resume from scratch, how to fix?

Every time my attempt to download the OS X LION upgrade is interrupted (more than half way through the 4.17GB last time) it starts again from zero GB and then gets interrupted again. My internet connection cuts in and out every half hour or so and I can't change that, but this download process from the appstore doesn't come up with a genuine 'resume' option, it just comes up with 'download' after I go back to the 'purchases' list. I'm on OS X 10.6.8.

Anybody got a suggestion apart from the instructions on the apple website, which do not produce the result the help page claims it should?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Therein lies the problem. Downloading a 4GB file requires a steady broadband connection so the download doesn't, "time out" which is what you are experiencing. There is no resume button available if the download times out.

You could try clicking Store from the App Store menu bar then click Check for Unfinished Downloads.

And keep in mind, "reinstalling OS X Lion via Lion Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X Lion is downloaded over the Internet from Apple when Lion Recovery is used for reinstallation". From here > About Lion Recovery.
