App Support for Legacy Devices

Hey yall.

I have an iPad (First Generation), which at this time is still a supported device. However as most all of us know, Apple has lovingly decided to ditch support of this A4 powered device with the upcoming release of iOS 6. My question, which some of you iPhone 3G and iPod touch (Second Generation) users might be able to answer is, that if i wanted to purchase an app on my iPad, but the app has been updated to only work on iOS 6 as a minimum support, would iTunes offer up a previous version that is compatable with iOS 5.1.1? Has anyone on here with a legacy device had this same situation? Thanks for your input.

First, all that Apple has done is state that iOS 6 cannot run on an iPad 1. Just like Lion can't run on a PPC Mac. But your iPad won't stop working.

Second, whether an app continues to work on older hardware is a matter for the developer. Apple has nothing to do with that. But most developers maintain archives of older versions, so you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
