downloading library cd books on my nano?

I have just purchased a new 16G iPod nano and would like to download cd books form my local library. There is nothing in the manual that is of any help. I have spoken to the phone support and was told it could be done although their instructions were vague. Can anyone give a step by step method of doing what I would like to do? While at the Best Buy store, the Nano on display had a book ikon. Mine does not. Is this something that must be downloaded from Apple? Any help would be appreciated. It would appear that Apple wants to be of no help at all. This is really giving me a bad taste for their products.

I think you need to have at least one item (on the nano) that is categorized as a "book" before that icon is shown on the nano's screen.

If you downloaded audio files from a source that is not the iTunes Store, and it's an audiobook, it may need to be (manually) categorized as an audiobook. Otherwise, iTunes may not know it's a book and think it's a song.

Select one of those audiobooks in iTunes, wherever it is currently listed. Do a Get Info on the item (Cmd-I or Get Info from the File menu). In the Info window, go to the Options tab. Make sure Media Kind is set to Audiobook. When you OK that change, that item should appear in iTunes in Books (in the sidebar under LIBRARY). And it should appear in the Books category on the nano, the next time you sync it.

If that was the problem, do the same thing for all the other audiobooks. You can select multiple items in the iTunes window at the same time, and do a "consolidated" Get Info on all of them at once, if you need to make the same change to all of them.
