HP ScanJet 3300C

I am new to Mac and trying to get my 6 year old HP scanner to work with my iMac 17". When connected directly to the computer`s USB port, I`m able to find it but won`t find it using the Image Capture application.

The HP website does not offer any help regarding this other than some instructions about disconnecting and reconnecting the scanner in order to have the computer recognize it, but no real help beyond this if the software doesn`t find the scanner.

Before going ahead and plunking down $89.95 for a Canon Lide60 scanner (that per Mac OS X page, is compatible) I wanted to see if somebody else here has this same scanner model and found a solution.

HP does not offer e-mail support, which *****, so I wouldn`t by anything from them ever again.

HP does not provide OS X drivers for that scanner model. There are no shareware or commercial scanning products that support that particular model. It is basically a Windows/PC only product.

Note that because you are using an Intel-Mac you need to take care that whatever scanner you purchase that the software drivers are universal binaries. If not it's possible that the scanning software may not work on an Intel-Mac. I suggest you make direct inquiries of the scanner's manufacturer to determine if the drivers are compatible.
