Using Apple TV for the first time: STUMPED

Hi there

I bought an apple tv (with the cords) recently and have tried to set it up.

I basically just plugged it into the tv using the HDMI cable and have put the tv on the correct input but nothing shows.. or happens..

Is there a button i am supposed to turn on perhaps?

Or do I need to set it up with the computer first?

Any guidance is appreciated

Thanks
Saira

I've had my ATV hooked up for all of half an hour but here's what happened to me. Plugged everything in, turned everything on, the TV said no signal from the HDMI input I knew I was using, the ATV's LED light went out after a minute or so, and I found the setup guide to be completely confusing. For some reason the thing that bugged me was that the remote had no effect on anything, so I used the instructions to pair it with the ATV by pressing and holding the remote's menu and >>< buttons for six seconds. The LED flashed and (I think) changed colors, the apple logo appeared on the screen, and I was good to go.

I hope that has something to do with your issue.

I just bought Apple TV today too, same exact problem you have. I plugged everything in, synced up the computer to do home sharing, turned on the television and nothing. It just keeps saying "no signal". The instructions don't say if the television should be turned to a specific channel or if it should be off cable (I turned the cable on and off trying to figure it out). I unplugged and replugged everything in and still nothing. I made sure the connection was as tight as it could since I read that could be an issue. The instructions just say to make sure that the television is on the "correct input" but I have no idea what that means. Usually I can figure anything out within a few minutes, but I'm coming up zero on this one. Seems like the instructions are missing a very crucial piece related to the television itself.

Yeah I called the technical support number and they said the product may be faulty and to bring it in.. I'm not getting a light on the box at all- which can be a problem. ... Maybeyou may be a hardware issue for you also.. They said its supposed to be quite straightforward otherwise. Good luck. Hope you have more fortune in solving your issue than I'm having hehe
