Use local admin account to reset local users password?

Everytime I logout or shut down my mac book pro running 10.7.4 I cannot login because the login "shakes" when I put in my password. The local account, userX, is also a mobile account on my home Lion Server network. Even why I try to go through the process of resetting my password using my appleid, the new password doesn't allow userX to logon to the machine, let alone the home network.

Thoughts?

Definitely sure about the password. I did not give the same password. I will try to reset the mobile account, but I can't even get on to the local account (when disconnected from network).

It seems like I should be able to login to the local admin account, which I created when I created the local/mobile user, and reset the local user password. Any way to do this?

This is perplexing. The only time I have seen the log-in shake, is when I do a typo entering my password. Maybe you are now typing what you mistakenly thought you entered? Try to typo while entering password a few times (paying attention to what you actually type. Sometimes finger hits two keys, and the one to side gets entered in addition or instead of the intended key....

One other thing is that SMC thing- somehow a static electricity gets in the machines and does things nobdoy can control....so the cure is to quit all apps, log out, turn off, unplug, wait a minute, reconnect, and then- before connecting any peripherals, start up and try...then connect (printers, airport etc) and see if it still is happening...

one thing I am no getting my head wrapped around is "The local account, userX, is also a mobile account on my home Lion Server network."

Explain what exactly you said there, please. Are you trying to give a password to a user account that is NOT the administrator account?

What devices are you saying you are using- I do not get local and mobile accounts...

MAC Server users have the ability to be "mobile" users. This means that when I log onto my Mac Server network (running on my Mac Mini) from my Mac Book Pro, I automatically sync my home directory on MBP over to the Mac Server. There are other options, but I primarily use mobile accounts on Mac Server for the backup feature (since iDisk went away).
