Q: Zoom Viewer Issue

So in the last couple of days Aperture has become unusable. I cannot view anything in the main window unless it is zoomed to a percentage. The zoom viewer which is supposed to make the image fill the screen wont show anything. Photos flash and then disappeared or get stuck on an enlarged preview. I have tried to regenerate previews, rebuild and repair the library to no avail. It applies to all file types - jpg and RAW.

Any suggestions or solutions???

This is a seriously massive flaw making the entire application unsuable!

Thanks Leonie. I went through the troubleshooting basics one by one without success. I was only able to fix the problem by reinstalling.

Have you tried to remove your Aperture Preference file? If this file is corrupted, it can cause similar symptoms.

Quit Aperture (and in MacOS Lion log off and on again, to ensure that Aperture really quits).
In the Finder choose Go to folder from the Go menu.
Type~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Press the Go button.
Remove the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
If this should not help, post back.

Thanks Léonie but unfortunately that hasn't helped. When I open the relevant library the problem persists.

Try, if any other measures from the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics will help.

Does it only happen in your user account or also, when you are working from a different account?
If it happens in all accounts and the problem is system wide, i'd try to reinstall Aperture.

Trashing the prefs file did work for me. Rebuilding and repairing the database didn't.
