How do I connect my Canon ImageClass 4000 BW printer on Lion?

Hello every one,

I have a Canon ImageClass 4000 printer which was working fine with my OS 10.6, but since I installed Lion, I can not print. I would really appreciate if you could help me with this. Thanking you in advance.

Mac OS X (10.7.4)

If this is an MF4xxx series then it needs the latest version of UFR2 driver to support Lion. If you upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard then there is a chance that the driver is not the latest and the cause of the problem.

If Lion is a new clean installation and you did install the latest UFR2 driver for Lion, then can you confirm which exact model you have and how it is connected to the Mac, for example is it via USB or Ethernet?

Dear Pahu,

Thank you for your reply.

My printer is not the MF4... series. It is an ImageClass 4000. I don't think that the UFR2 will work on this. I searched Google and the canon site and could not find any othe driver for this. I got this file from canon site called IC4000PS.hqx. When I extract it, it does not give anything except few AdobePS 8 files which I can not use.

Any other suggeston would be very much appreciated.

thanks

Sorry for my confusing reply. I had never heard of the imageCLASS 4000 so that's why I thought it was an MF4000 series. Seems like it was only sold in the USA and quite a number of years ago.

So I checked the Canon USA web site and saw the hqx package you refer to containing the old Adobe PS driver for OS8. I also saw an old version of a PCL and PS driver for Windows.

So working on the assumption that the device does support Postscript you should be able to create a printer queue using the Generic PS driver included with Lion. If this doesn't print or simply prints rubbish then change the printer queue via Options & Supplies > Driver to use the Generic PCL Laser driver.

No worries, thank you.

Infact I tried the generic PCL Laser Printer, it creates printer with the green light shwoing as active. When I try to print something the light turns orange and the printer Q can not find the printer. I will try to change the Eithernet cable and use anothe one.

If there is any other suggestion, I would really apprciate.

thanks again

The queue name could be the cause of this symptom. Some print controllers, like the EFI (Fiery) print controllers that Canon does use on several models, require specific queue names. So if you have configured the print queue to use the LPD protocol and your 4000 is using a Fiery print controller then try a queue name of print (all lower case). Note also that the other IP protocols of IPP or HP Jetdirect do not require a queue name but would require that they are enabled. So you should see if you can print a network configuration page to see what protocols are enabled in the printer.

PAHU,

Canon USA should hire you and pay big $ for your expertise. I spent several hours with their useless tech support, but they could not solve my problem. Their support does not even have basic knowledge. Their answer is alwasy that they don't support the product any more or that the Operating Systmes don't support their products.

Any how, you are a knowledgable expert. Good for you.

I hope you Canon USA sees this message.

thanks
