bluetooth not working with car after 5.1.1 update

A few weeks ago I updated my 3GS and now my phone will not pair with my vehicle. I contacted apple and they said to contact the car manufacturer and have them update the car. It doesn't work like that. No car update is available. Apple said that a fix might be available in the fall. That is too far away. Did anyone have this problem?
