Do you know if Apple is working on a driver/firmeware upgrade ?

I spoke with a Apple Care supervisor today.  Was told that my call was the fourth one received just today on this issue. I have tried rebooting, changing resolution, connecting/disconnecting/reconnecting projector without success.  My previous 2011 MBA with Mountain Lion worked flawlessly with same video projector.  I entered a complaint into Apple's feedback page.  I got the new 2012 MBA to have the 512 SSD storage.  I never suspected the newer one would be useless as a computer for work.  Hopefully Apple engineers will release a patch quickly to resolve the issue.  I have been reading about this issue in forums since Aug 2.

Booting up with the projector connected has solved the problem for me in most instances. Even putting to sleep, attaching the cable, and then waking it up again seems to help. Just don't connect projector while computer is awake, or if you do, restart the computer with the cables attached. I don't know if the update 10.8.1 has fixed this issue or not.

I tried rebooting MBA with projector connected.  It did not help.  I am currently running 10.8.1.  I am anxiously awaiting a patch from Apple.  Until then, my new 2012 MBA cannot support my work - or the purpose for which it was purchased.

Interesting problem (not intersting for you I bet!)

What model of projector are you trying to hook-up? Does the Mac see the projector? When you go into Display Prefs and press "Gather Windows" are there two windows there? (If there are 2 windows, then the mac see the 2nd monitor/projector, but the projector is not seeing the Mac).

For me I tryed on many different Projectors & external Dispkays, the issue appears 98% (sometime it works ????). Butthe only solution is to poweroff the MBA (2012) (not suspend) and reboot with the VGA device connected. When looking on forums , hundreds of usershave the problem since June. Apple is aware, we are many to post this to the support, but no news from Apple. It seems that they don't care about endusers!!!!

I don't think this is a "caring" issue at Apple.  Its an engineering issue between the HD4000 graphics chip, OS X and the hundreds of video projectors in the market.  In a global business meeting yesterday, instread of seeing a sea of Windows laptops, the diverse group was almost divided in half - 50% had Windows machines and the other 50% had Apple laptops.  Of the Apple group, all were MacBook Airs.  The MBA is an excellent choice for the business user - thin, lightweight, powerful and now available with 512 SSD.  I upgraded for the larger SSD memory.

The real "issue" is elevating the problem's visibility so management will deploy sufficient resources to provide a solution.  Hopefully it is a software or firmware patch. Perhaps the issue resides within the graphics chip requiring Intel's support.  I'm not apologizing for Apple. I'm in a small group of users essentially with a "bricked" laptop when it comes to using it for business keynote presentations.  If a patch is released quickly, all is well in Apple Land and I go back to evangelizing their products for business.  Every company has problems with new products.  What separates great companies from good companies is how they solve the problems and treat their customers.

i really hope apple can fix this soon, i ususally use the mac air for presentation, can't stand this stupid problem

I tried two 2012 Macbook Air, both had the same problem. However, a 2011 Macbook Air worked fine.

It's really a big problem for people want to present something when using a 2012 Air.

  • msamc Level 1 Level 1

This is a massive issue - we are rolling out 120 Airs across the campus, and they don't work reliably with our projectors. Running 10.7.4 fully up to date. Also an issue with 10.8.1.

Restarting with the projector plugged in works, but this is unacceptable in a classroom situation.

    Apple - fix, please?

The temporary solution work for us, but it is unsacceptable. We need it fix urgently. If anyone have a permanent solution, appreciate if they can share with us.

Please open a request for fix to Apple, the only solution is that Apple receive a lot of complains:

    Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011

After upgrade to Mountain Lion I can't connect ANY external display or projector.

    Thins that I've already tryed:

    1) PRAM NVRAM reset - DIDN'T WORK

    2) Fresh install Mountain Lion - DIDN'T WORK

    3) Try others HDMI or VGA adapters - DIDN'T WORK

    4) Downgrade (reinstall) Lion - all my adapters and external display worked again

Here is the chronology of the problem:

    1) With Lion - Everything worked fine

    2) Upgrade to Mountain Lion (10.8.0) - My HDMI adapter stoped work, but my VGA adapter worked fine

    3) Update to Mountain Lion (10.8.1) - My VGA adapter died too. Now none of them work. No HDMI and no VGA.

    4) Update to Mountain Lion (10.8.2 12C53 - I have an mac developer account) - DESPERATE TRY TO SEE IF APPLE FIXED, BUT NOTHING. SAME PROBLEMS, ANYTHING (HDMI and VGA) WORK.

Come on Apple. That's a HUGE shame!

All I can say is ditto. I have tried all the fixes. I don't even have a partial solution. I have been a dedicated Apple user since my first Apple IIe. I'm not the least bit impressed. I certainly hope Apple will get on this issue and provide a real fix. I intend to call into support tomorrow, and I encourage everyone with the issue to do the same so the profile of this significant issue comes fully to Apple's attention.

Crazy. We are seeing this too. We have kept most of our faculty on 10.6.8 but have done a few with Mountain Goat and this is bad.
