new MacBook Air - Battery "show time" won't appear

I have a new macbook air with lion. It won't allow me to show the "time remaining" in the battery on the menu bar... it only shows if i click the battery icon instead of always being present. In my old macbook air with lion (late 2010 model) it always showed the time remaining on the top menu bar without clicking anything.

anyone else have this issue or know of a fix. Apple... I'm hoping this is fixed in Mountain Lion! thx.

Are you updated to the latest iteration of Lion, your Profile shows 10.5.4 (please update it). Did it show after any update you may have done? Is this just recently? If you go into System Preferences > Energy Saver is the "Show in Menu Bar" option chosen? Can you toggle the "Show" in the "Menu Bar"?

i am using 10.7.4. The "show in menu bar" is checked and it does show the battery percentage, but i want to show the battery "time remaining". the only two options are icon or percentage... not "time remaining" as in my older macbook air. thoughts?

I am sitting here with 2 mid 2012 mba and on one i can choose time and on the other i cant. Strange bug.

Both 10.7.4 and exact the same configuration, even restored from the same TM.

When you unbox a new machine, from what I've read, some calibration time is needed before the time to fully charge can be calculated. I would expect you need to plug in your machine and spend some time with a full charge before you would see the remaining charge time.
