Can I chat with users of other (non-Apple) phone hardware using iMessage? Using an email address seems to work but can there be a two way chat on phones of one of fhe phones is not an Apple phone?

Thanks Macjack. When I put a valid chat enabled phone number in Messages it will not send the chat. Am I missing something?
I'm not real iPhone savvy, (you should ask in iPhone forum) but when I do "New chat" enter email I can type and send. Or choose them in Contacts and send message from there.
